Overview. Frankfort is located in Franklin County (21073). The population of Frankfort changed from 27,353 in 2010 to 27,885 in 2016; a change of 532 (1.9%). The county population changed from 49,306 to 50,560, a change of 1,254 (2.5%) during the same period.

Frankfort is located in the Frankfort, KY MISA (CBSA 23180). The CBSA population changed from 70,754 to 72,718 during the period 2010 to 2016, a change of 1,964 (2.8%) Among all 933 CBSAs, this CBSA ranked 469th based on 2016 population, 335th based on 2010 to 2016 population change, and 324th based on 2010 to 2016 percent population change.

Race/Ethnicity. Based on the most recent ACS 2015 5-year estimates, the total resident population was 27,535. The population of one race include 74.5% White alone, 16.9% Black alone, 0.2% American Indian/Alaska Native alone, 1.8% Asian alone, and 0.0% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander alone. The Hispanic population (of any race) was 4.6% of the total population. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.1 below.

Housing, Households, Economic Situation. Of the 13,844 total housing units, 12,105 were occupied housing units (households) or 87.4% of total units. Of the 6,024 owner-occupied units, the median housing value was $128,400. Of the 6,024 renter-occupied units paying rent, the median rent was $682. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.4 below.

Among the 6,485 family households, 16.0% had income below poverty level in the previous year. Among the total population, 19.1% had income below poverty level in the previous year. The median household income was $41,401 with median family income of $53,018. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.3 below.

Education. Of the 6,534 population 3 years and over enrolled in school, 3,140 were enrolled in grades K-8. Among the 18,802 population 25 years and over, 85.9% were high school graduates and 26.1% were college graduates. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.2 below.

Urban/Rural & Locale Code
The percent urban value in the Oveview is computed as the ratio of the population in urban census blocks to the total population in the area based on Census 2010 SF1. No adjustment is made for areas which may have changed boundaries since 2010. If the Census 2010 area geocode does not match to a ACS 2015 geocode, the percent urban is shown as NA.
