Overview. Columbia is located in Boone County (29019). The population of Columbia changed from 109,423 in 2010 to 120,612 in 2016; a change of 11,189 (10.2%). The county population changed from 163,201 to 176,594, a change of 13,393 (8.2%) during the same period.

Columbia is located in the Columbia, MO MSA (CBSA 17860). The CBSA population changed from 163,201 to 176,594 during the period 2010 to 2016, a change of 13,393 (8.2%) Among all 933 CBSAs, this CBSA ranked 240th based on 2016 population, 151st based on 2010 to 2016 population change, and 77th based on 2010 to 2016 percent population change.

Race/Ethnicity. Based on the most recent ACS 2015 5-year estimates, the total resident population was 115,391. The population of one race include 78.7% White alone, 10.0% Black alone, 0.2% American Indian/Alaska Native alone, 5.6% Asian alone, and 0.1% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander alone. The Hispanic population (of any race) was 3.7% of the total population. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.1 below.

Housing, Households, Economic Situation. Of the 48,698 total housing units, 45,024 were occupied housing units (households) or 92.5% of total units. Of the 21,471 owner-occupied units, the median housing value was $176,900. Of the 21,471 renter-occupied units paying rent, the median rent was $799. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.4 below.

Among the 22,960 family households, 10.7% had income below poverty level in the previous year. Among the total population, 24.4% had income below poverty level in the previous year. The median household income was $44,907 with median family income of $75,846. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.3 below.

Education. Of the 47,152 population 3 years and over enrolled in school, 10,232 were enrolled in grades K-8. Among the 62,507 population 25 years and over, 93.8% were high school graduates and 55.5% were college graduates. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.2 below.

The percent urban value in the Oveview is computed as the ratio of the population in urban census blocks to the total population in the area based on Census 2010 SF1. No adjustment is made for areas which may have changed boundaries since 2010. If the Census 2010 area geocode does not match to a ACS 2015 geocode, the percent urban is shown as NA.

22 = Suburb, Midsize: area outside PC & inside UA & population 100,000-250,000.

31 = Town, Fringe: area inside UC that is <= 10 miles from UA.
