Overview. Jefferson City is located in Cole County (29051). The population of Jefferson City changed from 43,160 in 2010 to 43,013 in 2016; a change of -147 (-0.3%). The county population changed from 76,127 to 76,631, a change of 504 (0.7%) during the same period.

Jefferson City is located in the Jefferson City, MO MSA (CBSA 27620). The CBSA population changed from 149,953 to 151,391 during the period 2010 to 2016, a change of 1,438 (1.0%) Among all 933 CBSAs, this CBSA ranked 275th based on 2016 population, 374th based on 2010 to 2016 population change, and 467th based on 2010 to 2016 percent population change.

Race/Ethnicity. Based on the most recent ACS 2015 5-year estimates, the total resident population was 43,186. The population of one race include 75.5% White alone, 18.2% Black alone, 0.5% American Indian/Alaska Native alone, 1.6% Asian alone, and 0.1% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander alone. The Hispanic population (of any race) was 2.4% of the total population. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.1 below.

Housing, Households, Economic Situation. Of the 18,831 total housing units, 16,884 were occupied housing units (households) or 89.7% of total units. Of the 9,866 owner-occupied units, the median housing value was $138,800. Of the 9,866 renter-occupied units paying rent, the median rent was $583. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.4 below.

Among the 9,998 family households, 10.1% had income below poverty level in the previous year. Among the total population, 16.1% had income below poverty level in the previous year. The median household income was $47,969 with median family income of $62,147. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.3 below.

Education. Of the 10,638 population 3 years and over enrolled in school, 4,396 were enrolled in grades K-8. Among the 29,998 population 25 years and over, 91.5% were high school graduates and 34.1% were college graduates. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.2 below.

The percent urban value in the Oveview is computed as the ratio of the population in urban census blocks to the total population in the area based on Census 2010 SF1. No adjustment is made for areas which may have changed boundaries since 2010. If the Census 2010 area geocode does not match to a ACS 2015 geocode, the percent urban is shown as NA.

22 = Suburb, Midsize: area outside PC & inside UA & population 100,000-250,000.

31 = Town, Fringe: area inside UC that is <= 10 miles from UA.
