Overview. Billings is located in Yellowstone County (30111). The population of Billings changed from 104,554 in 2010 to 110,323 in 2016; a change of 5,769 (5.5%). The county population changed from 148,410 to 158,437, a change of 10,027 (6.8%) during the same period.

Billings is located in the Billings, MT MSA (CBSA 13740). The CBSA population changed from 159,358 to 169,728 during the period 2010 to 2016, a change of 10,370 (6.5%) Among all 933 CBSAs, this CBSA ranked 249th based on 2016 population, 178th based on 2010 to 2016 population change, and 132nd based on 2010 to 2016 percent population change.

Race/Ethnicity. Based on the most recent ACS 2015 5-year estimates, the total resident population was 108,134. The population of one race include 89.9% White alone, 0.9% Black alone, 4.4% American Indian/Alaska Native alone, 0.8% Asian alone, and 0.1% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander alone. The Hispanic population (of any race) was 5.8% of the total population. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.1 below.

Housing, Households, Economic Situation. Of the 47,044 total housing units, 44,092 were occupied housing units (households) or 93.7% of total units. Of the 27,725 owner-occupied units, the median housing value was $191,200. Of the 27,725 renter-occupied units paying rent, the median rent was $762. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.4 below.

Among the 26,065 family households, 9.3% had income below poverty level in the previous year. Among the total population, 12.8% had income below poverty level in the previous year. The median household income was $51,012 with median family income of $66,212. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.3 below.

Education. Of the 25,322 population 3 years and over enrolled in school, 12,427 were enrolled in grades K-8. Among the 73,004 population 25 years and over, 92.8% were high school graduates and 30.7% were college graduates. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.2 below.

Urban/Rural & Locale Code
The percent urban value in the Oveview is computed as the ratio of the population in urban census blocks to the total population in the area based on Census 2010 SF1. No adjustment is made for areas which may have changed boundaries since 2010. If the Census 2010 area geocode does not match to a ACS 2015 geocode, the percent urban is shown as NA.

Local code (defined by the Department of Education):

11 = City, Large: area inside UA & inside PC & population >= 250,000.
12 = City, Midsize: area inside UA & inside PC & population 100,000-250,000.
