Overview. Laredo is located in Webb County (48479). The population of Laredo changed from 237,057 in 2010 to 257,156 in 2016; a change of 20,099 (8.5%). The county population changed from 251,335 to 271,193, a change of 19,858 (7.9%) during the same period.

Laredo is located in the Laredo, TX MSA (CBSA 29700). The CBSA population changed from 251,335 to 271,193 during the period 2010 to 2016, a change of 19,858 (7.9%) Among all 933 CBSAs, this CBSA ranked 175th based on 2016 population, 116th based on 2010 to 2016 population change, and 87th based on 2010 to 2016 percent population change.

Race/Ethnicity. Based on the most recent ACS 2015 5-year estimates, the total resident population was 248,855. The population of one race include 94.1% White alone, 0.4% Black alone, 0.4% American Indian/Alaska Native alone, 0.6% Asian alone, and 0.0% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander alone. The Hispanic population (of any race) was 95.2% of the total population. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.1 below.

Housing, Households, Economic Situation. Of the 71,718 total housing units, 66,308 were occupied housing units (households) or 92.5% of total units. Of the 41,378 owner-occupied units, the median housing value was $112,400. Of the 41,378 renter-occupied units paying rent, the median rent was $763. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.4 below.

Among the 53,725 family households, 26.8% had income below poverty level in the previous year. Among the total population, 30.8% had income below poverty level in the previous year. The median household income was $39,711 with median family income of $42,913. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.3 below.

Education. Of the 83,342 population 3 years and over enrolled in school, 42,990 were enrolled in grades K-8. Among the 136,062 population 25 years and over, 66.3% were high school graduates and 17.6% were college graduates. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02.2 below.

Urban/Rural & Locale Code
The percent urban value in the Oveview is computed as the ratio of the population in urban census blocks to the total population in the area based on Census 2010 SF1. No adjustment is made for areas which may have changed boundaries since 2010. If the Census 2010 area geocode does not match to a ACS 2015 geocode, the percent urban is shown as NA.

Local code (defined by the Department of Education):
where UA: Urbanized Area; UC: Urban Cluster; PC: Principal City
11 = City, Large: area inside UA & inside PC & population >= 250,000.
12 = City, Midsize: area inside UA & inside PC & population 100,000-250,000.
13 = City, Small: area inside UA & inside PC & population < 100,000.
21 = Suburb, Large: area outside PC & inside UA & population >= 250,000.
22 = Suburb, Midsize: area outside PC & inside UA & population 100,000-250,000.
23 = Suburb, Small: area outside PC & inside UA & population < 100,000.
31 = Town, Fringe: area inside UC that is <= 10 miles from UA.
32 = Town, Distant: area inside UC that is 10-35 miles from UA.
33 = Town, Remote: area inside UC that is > 35 miles from UA.
41 = Rural, Fringe: non-urban area <= 5 miles from UA & <= 2.5 miles from UC
42 = Rural, Distant: non-urban area 5-25 miles from UA & 2.5-10 miles from UC
43 = Rural, Remote: non-urban area >= 25 miles from UA & >= 10 miles from UC.
