Scope of Data and Data Use. The lowest level of geographic area tabulation in SF4 is census tract. Use SF3 for analyses that require smaller area (block group) data.

Similar to SF2, the minimum population threshold for SF4 is 100 persons and 50 unweighted cases. There may be no data for very small population groups for very small geographic areas.

Data are presented in 213 population tables (matrices) and 110 housing tables, identified with "PCT" and "HCT", respectively. Each table is iterated for 336 population groups: the total population, 132 race groups, 78 American Indian and Alaska Native tribe categories (reflecting 39 individual tribes), 39 Hispanic or Latino groups, and 86 ancestry groups.

In comparison to SF3, SF4 can be most useful to for analysis of population and housing characteristics by race/ethnicity iteration. PCT and HCT tables presented in SF3 are iterated by race/ethnicity in SF4.

Files and File Structure. There are 38 data segments (compared to 76 for SF3). Data table/items organization by file are summarized at Census 2000 Summary File 4 file structure.
