As shown in the graphic at the right, the pattern of demographic change in the plains states during 2000 to 2007 has continued the pattern of the past 50-to-60 years. Recent official county population estimates developed by the Census Bureau provide this new mid-decade look at how U.S. population is changing by county and region.

The largest 10 counties, based on total population as of July 1, 2007, population change 2000 to 2007, and population percent change 2000 to 2007, are shown in tables presented below.
