  ... GeoGateway

Use the CV XE GIS GeoGateway to move shapefiles and other geographic data from Webservers to your computer. Select from thousands of political/statistical geographic boundary files, among others, using pick-from-list methods. Download shapefiles for geographies ranging from individual counties to states to U.S. and beyond.

New 2013 Vintage Core-Based Statistical Area Shapefiles (CBSA)

Using GeoGateway to Access 2013 Vintage CBSA Shapefiles
This section illustrates use of the GeoGateway to download shapefiles from the Census Bureau webserver and integrate these shapefiles into a GIS project. The GeoGateway operation is invoked from the CV XE main menu File>GeoGateway. The GeoGateway form opens. Dbl-clicking "US 00000 United States" in left listbox shows list of U.S. national scope shapefiles available for download. The highlighted shapefiles in the right listbox show the 2013 Metro shapefiles available.

Integrating the Combined Statistical Areas (CSAs) into a GIS Project - an example
Dbl-click the "Combined Statistical Areas (2013 Metros Vintage)" in the right listbox.
This triggers the download selection.

A message summarizing the selected download appears and provides and option to proceed or cancel the operation.

Editboxes at the bottom of the form are populated with the source of the file to be downloaded:
    http://www2.census.gov/geo/tiger/2013CBSA/CSAs_Feb2013_delineation.zip
and the destination of the shapefiles on the local computer:
    c:\cvxe\1\CSAs_Feb2013_delineation.zip
The destination of the shapefiles on the local computer can be modified before processing begins.

The CSA shapefile is automatically made available (unzipped, etc.) in the target folder. The following view illustrates opening the CSA shapefile and the MapQuest OpenStreetMap tile layer (use of the OpenStreetMap is an option).

The downloaded shapefiles may be made a part of any GIS project.
