ProximityOne on Twitter and RSS Feeds; Events of the Week

Access ProximityOne Twitter at http://twitter.com/proximityone.  Receive the Twitter posts via RSS Feed.  These resources provide a more continuous coverage of new developments of similar topics covered in DMINews but with less detail.  They are also intended to promote dialog on topics of common interest.

Events of the Week (see link in left section) is updated most Mondays at 10:00 a.m. Eastern and summarizes happenings for the week listed in the Integrated Statistical Data Access Calendar (http://proximityone.com/situation/calendar.htm) and related events.

ProximityOne Enterprise -- Census 2010/Census 2000 Integrated Access/Analysis

The ProximityOne Enterprise program (http://proximityone.com/enterprise/guide) is scalable, server-based, component suite of geodemographic-economic data, software, and analytical resources. ProximityOne Enterprise may be deployed on a wide spectrum ranging from a single user and desktop operation to a global organization and mixture of desktop and Web-based operations.

As the Census 2010 data become available (mid-2011), ProximityOne Enterprise will enable to access the most widely used Census 2010 data in a tabular display and GIS/thematic mapping format -- all in true enterprise server structure.  Knit together data from multiple statistical programs (e.g., Census 2000, Census 2010, American Community Survey) in a transportable enterprise server structure with third party data or your own internal data.

Using Enterprise Now.  The Census 2010 data are a significant optional component of the Enterprise server program.  Get started now with essential decision-making information/data already available.

The Enterprise server design enables you to load the data right onto your computer/server.  You do not have to depend on accessing data from a server external to your organization.  Conversely, if you prefer not to have the data maintained on your server, you can alternatively access the data online via the ProximityOne servers.

Use Enterprise to access spatial data (such as the Census Bureau TIGER/Line data) to perform mapping and geospatial analyses.  Knit together server-based subject matter data with server-based spatial data.

The Enterprise program is comprised of the Enterprise Server, Enterprise Programming Language, Internet Map Server and CommunityViewer GIS.  While these components are highly integrated, the design also makes them as independent as possible.  For example, the Internet Map Server can be used independent of data stored in the Enterprise Server.  Similarly, Internet based mapping can be performed using data housed in the Enterprise Server without using the Internet Map Server (but not as robust/comprehensively).  Another example, use the Enterprise Server only and create/perform queries and develop code/application programs with your own software.

County Monthly Employment and Unemployment Trend -- July 2009 Estimates Update

Use County Monthly Employment and Unemployment Trends tools and resources (http://proximityone.com/county_employment.htm), updated monthly, to learn about employment and unemployment trends in your counties of interest. What trends will change when and where? How will this impact you?

Each month Proximity develops an extract file from the MetroDynamics (MD) database focused on county employment and unemployment trends. The extract file includes monthly projections based on the county-level employment and unemployment data published monthly by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).  Projections are developed by Proximity using the MD Modeler, related data and multi-scenario assumptions. The MD extract data are integrated into a shapefile for visual analysis. The shapefile is added to a CommunityViewer GIS project to develop many different types of employment-unemployment geospatial analyses and maps. Unlike PDF and webserver maps, you can integrate your data with these tools to examine prospective future impact on your projects, programs and operations.

As an example, the U.S. by county July 2009 data are released by BLS on September 1, 2009 (see Integrated Federal Statistical Data Access Calendar for this all upcoming monthly access dates) are integrated into MD the same week, estimates and projections are updated, and the shapefile is developed.

To obtain the most recent version of the shapefile or Excel file with historical monthly estimates and projections contact Proximity using this form (mention county employment-unemployment monthly trends) or call (888) 364-7656.

Mapping America's Schools:  2008-09 School Year K-12 Schools

In September, Proximity geocoded the locations of all 103,000 national scope K-12 public schools for the 2008-09 school year and created a shapefile for use in GIS applications.  Using these data, school district summary data have also been developed for the 2008-09 school year.  Based on data reported by individual school districts and state education agencies, these data can be used to examine enrollment trends and new and closed schools relative to previous years.  Knit together the new national scope 2008-09 K-12 schools point shapefile with your data and other types of geography and subject matter.  Use the school data/shapefiles to create thematic maps and explore patterns using the CommunityViewer GIS software.

Use of the school shapefile will be covered in the September 24th Web Session (see next item).

Contact Proximity for more information.  Mention 2008-09 K-12 schools in the text section.

Census 2010/ACS

Census Day is April 1, 2010, and marks the reference date for Census 2010 data.  The Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) is now integrally linked with Census 2010.  The "Census 2010/ACS" DMINews section provides monthly highlights of current and pending developments regarding these programs.  The focus is on data access and use and to a lesser extent data development and related operations. Proximity will continue to maintain the decennial census focused Web pages Census 2000 and Census 2010.

The 2008 ACS summary data are scheduled for released September 22, 2009.  See http://proximityone.com/cen2010.htm#081509b.
