New/Extended 25,000+ Places Ranking Table and Dataset The city/place demographics Web page provides information on city/place demographic trends since Census 2000. That Web page will be updated in June with the 2007 official city/place/county subdivision population estimates. Places ranking tables are accessible via the main places Web page, but none of them cover all U.S. places. "City/place" refers to a geographic area of population concentration. As of Census 2000, there were more than 25,000 places, including incorporated places (19,452 places) and Census designated places (5,698 CDPs - no state recognized boundary nor governmental authority) "Incorporated place" refers to a geographic area of population concentration having governmental authority conveyed by the corresponding state. As of 1/1/07 there are 19,475 incorporated places. Many Census designated places are quite important to the analysis of areas of population concentration. New U.S. All Places Ranking Table. The U.S. All Places Ranking Table includes all 25,000+ places and minor civil divisions in some states. As shown in the following graphic, places in a state of interest may be selected using a dropdown box and then that subset ranked. Incorporated places, CDPs or census county divisions may be selected as a type and viewed alone. The Find operation enables you to locate an area by name. The ranking table uses software that processes a CSV dataset containing the data for all places. Users of the ranking table also have direct access to the CSV place dataset which can be opened with spreadsheet and other software. The CSV place dataset can be integrated into a places shapefile using the CommunityViewer database>dbrowser>import and database>dbmerge operations and then used for maps and geospatial analysis. ![]() Click graphics for larger view, then click F11 key. DMINews Index Restructured Access the DMINews index at http://proximityone.com/dminews_topics.htm. Expanded to reflect topic additions through May 2008, the DMINews uses new ranking software enabling extended queries. The table is dynamically displayed by accessing underlying data structured in a CSV file. The CSV file is also available for use with spreadsheet and related software. This software and general design is the same used with premium ranking tables. Apply this technology to your data for Web access on your server. Contact Proximity for more information. See more information about this premium ranking table at http://proximityone.com/rankingtables.htm.
