Metro GDP Estimates & Projections New to MetroDynamics (MD -- http://proximityone.com/md.htm) in the fall of 2008 are quarterly estimates and projections of metropolitan area gross domestic product (GDP). Developed by Proximity, these unique measures of the metro GDP provide a way compare and assess the overall economy. Pattern Analysis using MapView MapView is a re-usable mapping and Geographic Information System (GIS) component used in several Proximity resources. MapView, a light version of the Proximity CommunityViewer GIS (CV -- http://proximityone.com/cv.htm) resource. This section will review use of MapView for pattern analysis as integrated into MetroDynamics (MD -- http://proximityone.com/md.htm). Guide to Site Analysis Use site analysis to, for example, count the number of students having certain attributes a certain distance from a school. Or, use site analysis to determine the demographic/market attributes of an area defined by a set of small areas such as ZIP codes, block groups, or census tracts. This item provides an update on using tools like the CommunityViewer site analysis operations to perform such tasks. Assessing Accuracy of Place/County Demographic Estimates As we get further from Census 2000, it becomes more difficult to produce good population estimates in a national estimates program. This is particularly true for areas that have have been experiencing change and smaller places. While we believe Census Bureau county/place/subcounty population estimates to be the best available, and they are official for use in allocation of Federal funds and other purposes, the question arises - how good are they? Unlike a census or statistical survey, there is no good way to estimate the error associated with these estimates. We compare population estimates based on the number of households estimated using U.S. Postal Service delivery statistics and related data to Census Bureau estimates for a selected set of areas.
