Proximity develops and uses school level data with other data to facilitate demographic-economic analyses of study areas. Column Headers (2008-09 school year except as noted) School Name St - state postal abbreviation SchCode - Federal school code DistName - school district name StID - state assigned school district code StSch - state assigned school code Phone - school telephone number City - school location city name ZIP - school location ZIP code LoGrade - low grade (from 2007-08 file) HiGrade - high grade (from 2007-08 file) T1 - 1 indicates Title I eligible school T1SW - 1 indicates Title I school-wide eligible school; otherwise coded as 2 Magnet - 1 indicates magnet school; otherwise coded as 2 Chrtr - 1 indicates magnet school; otherwise coded as 2 Shrd - 1 indicates shared time school; otherwise coded as 2 Index - not used in this version Students - number of students TchFTE - number of teachers, full-time equivalence StdTch - student-teacher ratio Vintage - 2008-09 (used with updated versions) Usage Notes and Additional Information . Start-up view shows schools listed in order of Federal code (SchCode column). . How to find a school by name? .. Sort on School Name column and then scroll to school name of interest. .. Use scrollbar at far right of ranking table; scroll down to school name. .. Click header of Students column; then click again. . Find in School Name. Rules for entering Find text ("enter text & click Find"): .. operates on School Name column. .. matching requires exact spelling. .. matching is case sensitive. .. try use of partial, unique text rather than full name. .. ShowAll button must be used to refresh table to search on full set of names. . Find in City Name. Rules for entering Find text ("enter text & click Find"): .. operates on City Name column. .. otherwise operates same as Find in School Name filter. . Grade Range Filtering. Some column widths are intentionally made narrow to conserve space. .. Click on column divider in header row and drag to make narrower/wider. . Or use similar technique to locate by school district name or ZIP code. . Other .. A negative value in the numeric columns indicates data not reported or not available for this school. Data presented the ranking table are a subset of a larger set of schools and subject matter. Only regular, active schools are included in the ranking table and omit alternative, special education and other schools that are included in the master K-12 school database. Additional subject matter data available but not presented in the ranking table include address, latitude and longitude of school location, previous year enrollment, free and reduced lunch eligible count, congressional district code and other items. The master K-12 schools database may be used in manner integrated with other geography/data through the ProximityOne Enterprise or acquired separately on a one-time or subscription basis in CSV or database structure. The data are available in shapefile structure and may be used in mapping or geospatial analysis applications with the CommunityViewer GIS software or any software that can process a shapefile.
