MetroDynamics: Ranking Analysis MetroDynamics (MD) is a relational database management system that knits together disparate data from many sources centric to metropolitan areas using the Core-Based Statistical Area (CBSA) code. MD data are for varying time intervals (start and end dates) and relate to different reference dates/time units including month, quarter, and year. An important feature of MD is the ability to extract selected subject matter so that you can rank, view, and analyze data of interest to you. As an example, you can view/analyze the most recent population estimates side-by-side with employment for the most quarter for and industry/type of business of interest to you. By using the MD table building operation, you can select data on establishments, employment, and earnings by type of business from approximately 1,500 types of business (the number of types of business vary by metro and average 1,500 across all metros). A summary of the fields and content in the standard extract table generated by the MD build table operation is presented below. After you build the table, it becomes immediately available for the MD built-in ranking analysis. You are also able to open this file in other applications, such as Excel or Access, that can process dbase file structures.
