Texas School District Performance Analysis

This page provides information regarding the CommunityViewer TXSDP project files and layers. The same set of shapefiles and layers are used in each of the primary projects:

  • All students -- txsdp06_all.gpr
  • White students -- txsdp06_white.gpr
  • Black students -- txsdp06_black.gpr
  • Hispanic students -- txsdp06_hispanic.gpr
  • Economically disadvantaged students -- txsdp06_ed.gpr

Project Legend

Project Layer Descriptions TAKS project layer names are shown in the CommunityViewer legend panel to the left of the map window. An example of the legend panel is shown in the graphic at the right. The first layer name, K-12 Schools, is shown with a checkbox to the left of the layer name. Each layer is further described below.

K-12 Schools
  • Texas K-12 public schools
  • Click-on layer to view individual school locations

States
  • All U.S. state boundaries

Major Roads1
  • Texas Interstate and divided highways
  • Click-on roads layer to help orient the map view

Major Roads2
  • Texas major roads2

Roads3
  • Texas major roads3

TX MSAs
  • Texas Metropolitan Statistical Areas
  • Click-on MSA layer to help orient the map view

Sparseness Indicator
  • Click-on to superimpose diagonal lines for districts
      with small numbers of test-takers
  • Double-click layer to edit the query and
      change variables to correspond to other tests

Performance Gap
  • Click-on to view interval between
      one TEA subgroup passing rate compared to another

Median Household Income by Block Group
  • Texas block groups (covering Texas wall-to-wall)
  • Census 2000 measure of economic prosperity

  • Census 2000 measure of economic prosperity -- group of block groups

Places
  • Texas incorporated places or census designated places
  • Click-on layer to view relation between school districts and places

Urban Areas
  • Texas urbanized areas and urban clusters
  • Click-on urban areas to view relation between urban and rural areas

Counties
  • Texas counties -- always leave this layer clicked on
  • Optionally turn on county names using layer editor
