Office of Personnel Management

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) provides a variety of data and statistical programs to inform the public and federal agencies about the civilian workforce. These resources are used for strategic human capital planning, policy development, and public transparency.

Core Data Programs

FedScope: FedScope is OPM's primary public-facing data portal, providing access to data from the Enterprise Human Resources Integration Statistical Data Mart (EHRI-SDM). It covers over 2 million federal civilian employees and includes information on:
oDemographics: Age, gender, and race/ethnicity of the workforce.
oJob Characteristics: Pay plan, grade, salary, occupation, and supervisory status.
oEmployment Dynamics: Data on hires, separations, promotions, and awards. FedScope offers both raw datasets in formats like CSV and interactive data cubes for analysis.
Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS): OPM conducts this annual survey to gather federal employees' perceptions of their agencies' policies and practices. The results are available in dashboards and reports, providing insights into organizational climate and employee morale.

Published Reports and Dashboards

The OPM publishes a number of reports and dashboards to highlight key workforce trends:

Federal Civilian Employment: This report provides an overview of the size and characteristics of the federal civilian workforce. It includes data broken down by agency, geographic location, and demographic details.
Time to Hire Dashboard: This tool monitors agencies' progress in reducing the time it takes to hire new employees.
Cyber Workforce Dashboard: This dashboard provides interactive data on federal employees in information technology and cybersecurity roles.
Retirement Statistics and Trend Analysis: This document offers a summary of total retirees, as well as the average age and length of service at retirement for the federal civilian workforce.
