U.S. International Trade Commission

The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) provides extensive data and statistical programs to analyze and disseminate information on U.S. and global trade. Its statistical services, provided by the Office of Analysis and Research Services, support the Commission's investigations and research activities.

Trade Data and Analysis Tools

The USITC offers several web-based applications and downloadable datasets for public use:

USITC Interactive Tariff and Trade DataWeb: This is a key resource that provides access to official U.S. import and export statistics from the U.S. Department of Commerce. The DataWeb allows users to create custom queries and analyze trade data by various parameters, including trade flow, value, timeframe (monthly, quarterly, or annual), trading partner, and product classification systems like the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Standard International Trade Classification (SITC), and the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).
Open Data Portal: This page provides a variety of datasets in formats like CSV, Excel, and JSON. These datasets include:
oInternational Trade and Production Database for Estimation (ITPD-E): This database contains consistent data on international and domestic trade at the industry level, covering sectors like agriculture, mining, energy, manufacturing, and services.
oDynamic Gravity Dataset (DGD): This dataset contains macroeconomic, geographic, and institutional data for various countries over time, which is used to model bilateral trade flows.
oHarmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS): The USITC provides the official HTS, a hierarchical structure for classifying goods for duty and statistical purposes. Archived versions are also available.
Data Analysis Tools (DATs): These are interactive, Excel-based dashboards that present selected U.S. merchandise trade data and are used to supplement USITC reports like the "Shifts in U.S. Merchandise Trade" series.

Research and Publications

The USITC's research and statistical work is also presented in a variety of reports and publications. These recurring reports provide an overview of U.S. trade and specific industry trends:

Shifts in U.S. Merchandise Trade: An annual report that analyzes changes in U.S. merchandise trade, including trends by country and industry.
Recent Trends in U.S. Services Trade: An annual report that provides a qualitative and quantitative overview of U.S. trade in services, often focusing on a specific sector, such as professional services.
Investigation-related data: The USITC also provides data from its investigations, such as those related to antidumping/countervailing duty and unfair import practices. This includes data on the number of new investigations, their average length, and outcomes.
