School District Data Book for Windows

The School District Data Book for Windows is program that provides Windows-based access to the School District Data Book CD-ROM databases.

Requirements and Basics for Use

  • The School District Data Book for Windows (SDDBW) is designed to operate on Windows 95/98/NT platforms.
  • The setup.exe (download below) is approximately 7 MB and expands to approximately 30MB.
  • To use the SDDB for Windows software, you must have an SDDB data disc loaded in your CD-ROM drive.

Get SDDBW

Download the SDDB for Windows Version 1.1. package for use on your computer. It is suggested that the setup.exe be downloaded into a temporary work area.

Or, download the SDDB for Windows Version 1.1. software only if you have already installed the SDDBW package (downloaded from this site). If you have already installed the SDDBW package, then you should skip the installation notes provided below and only overcopy your existing sddb.exe program with the sddb.exe program that you are now acquiring.

Installation

After downloading the setup.exe, start setup using the Windows Run feature or equivalent operation. The setup and installation is self-guiding and takes only a few minutes.

After installing the program, a readme file appears providing getting started information.

If you do not have a SDDB CD-ROM ...

If you want to install SDDBW and see how it works, but do not have a SDDB CD-ROM, follow these additional steps. The SDDB data files are provided for DC (District of Columbia) for your test install use. The following steps are not recommended if you have the SDDB CD-ROM.

  • Download detailed data zip file for DC into c:\ (root directory) and expand (winzip) this zip file into c:\ (root directory). This process creates the single file dc.dat.
  • Download supplementary files into c:\sddb and expand this file into c:\sddb. This process creates a few files.
  • When you first run the SDDBW, and are prompted for the location of the CD-ROM drive letter, enter C (enter no colon or backslash).
If you have a hard disk drive D, for example, the above steps can be performed using the drive letter D (or other) rather than C. If you are using the special DC SDDB files, remember that the only school district or county or state for which the detailed table data is available are those for DC. Selecting other areas will resulting in a missing data message.

If you have a problem downloading files, you may use FTP as an alternative:
