Existence of K-12 schools can be an important part of the fabric of the community.  For many cities/places, the school district itself exists as a school district community.  While often schools are thought of as the building, staff and students, there is the broader underlying school district community population.  The following views of Mississippi schools, school districts and colleges illustrate ways that educational institutions and areas can be mixed with other geodemographics for presentation, collaboration and anlaysis.

K-12 Public Schools

This graphic illustrates how CV can be used to show schools with different types of markers.  Additional markers might be added showing other characteristics such as Title I eligibility.

School Districts

This graphic illustrates how CV can be used to show school districts in context of other geography.  County boundary are shown with a bold gray boundary enabling comparison of school district and county boundaries.  While in this state many school districts align with county boundaries, many do not and transcend county boundaries.

K-12 school districts are based on the 2007-08 school year and the districts defined as of January 1, 2008.

K-12 schools used in these project files are based on the 2006-07 school year.  These data are based on data reported by schools/school districts to state education agencies.  State education agencies then report these data to the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE).  Data used here are derived from that source and represent the latest, most up-to-date, national scope school level data available.  Proximity developed the shapefile showing location of the schools.   In the version used here, no further correction of latitude-longitude values beyond those data summarized by USDOE.  While most of these schools are correctly located as shown, a few are in error.  The views and processes presented here should be regarded as very accurate but not fully verified and used to illustrate analytical processes.
