SDViewer -- Relating Different Types of Districts The next set of views show how SDViewer can be used to display relationships between types of districts. First, the California by county layer is added. Then, the zoom tool is used to zoom to Fresno County, CA. Removing the secondary and elementary districts (by unchecking the layers in the legend panel) the the following view appears showing the county by unified school district. Fresno Unified is one of the districts with enrollment over 25,000 and percent school age population in poverty of more than 25 percent. In the next view, the secondary districts layer is checked and these districts appear. The identify tool is used to profile a selected secondary district. There is only one secondary district in the immediate vicinity of Fresno Unified. In the next view, the secondary districts layer is unchecked and the elementary districts layer is checked. The identify tool is used to profile a selected elementary district. Westpark Elementary covers the same earth surface as Washington Union High (secondary district). Both the elementary and secondary district are contiguous to Fresno Unified. In the next view, a thematic map shows the percent population in poverty by unified district. This view is a zoom in view of the thematic map shown earlier for the U.S. The identify tool is used to profile a selected district. It is clear that even though Fresno was the only unified district to meet the size and specific percent in poverty (query reviewed earlier), the poverty rate is relatively very high in most unified school districts in this county. |
