America's Largest Schools

September 18, 2009. America's largest schools (schools with enrollment of 3,000 or more) had a cumulative enrollment of just over 1,000,000 students in the 2008-09 school year. Use the interactive ranking table provided in this section to rank and view characteristics of these 284 schools. These data are provided by individual school districts and state education agencies. This marks the first time that national scope school level data have been reported within just a few months of the close of the school year. In the past, data for all schools have not been available until more than a year following the close of the school year.

Proximity has geocoded all 103,000 schools and created a shapefile for GIS applications. See graphic below showing locations of all schools and schools with 3,000 enrollment or more.
