The National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS) provides selected demographic-economic measures for provincial capitals and cities specifically designated in the state plan (2007).

This section provides access to these data via an interactive ranking table (below) and city-by-city profiles/tables. Download and use the associated no fee, no registration GIS project; view/analyze city locations in context of other geography.

The concept/definition of cities in China is different from the term as used in the U.S. City data published by NBS, and used in the ranking table below, include counties under the jurisdiction of city governments.

The present version of the interactive ranking table presents these data following the structure and content as published by NBS. This section will be updated with ratios, different measurement bases (dollars) and other data that enable improved analytical potential.
