High school graduates (or higher) increased from 75.2 percent (population ages 25 years and over) in 1990 to 85.6 percent in 2010 for the United States overall -- an increase of 10.4 percent. At the same time, college graduates (or higher) increased from 20.3 percent (population ages 25 years), in 1990 to 28.2 percent in 2010 for the United States overall -- an increase of 7.9 percent. The 2010 data are based on the American Community Survey data released in September 2011 (next update September 2012).
