Residential Construction. August 2022 new authorized residential construction was 416 total units with total value of $75,956,196 compared to August 2021 228 total units with total value of $57,493,457. Updated monthly. See details in Section 2.4.1. below.

Housing Units. During the period 2010 to 2020, the number of housing units changed from 312,185 (2010) to 331,034 (2020), a change of 18,849 (6.0%). See details on occupied/vacant units, tenure, value, rent and related in Section 2.4.2. below.

Population & Components of Change. During the period 2010 to 2020, the population of Jackson County, MO changed from 674,854 (2010) to 705,925 (2020), a change of 31,071 (4.6%).

Components of population change during the 2010-2020 period were births 93,609, deaths 63,226, and net migration 1,146. The population natural increase, births less deaths, was 30,383.

The 7/1/20 model-based population estimate was 717,243 compared to the 7/1/21 model-based population estimate of 716,862. Components of change over the year were births 8,648, deaths 7,892, international migration 449, domestic migration -1,732. The net migration was -1,283. The natural increase was 756.

Income. The median household income changed from $44,620 in 2010 to $56,398, a change of $11,778 ( 26.4%).

Poverty. The number of people in poverty (all ages) changed from 111,816 in 2010 to 86,479, a change of -25,337 ( -22.7%). The poverty rate (all ages) changed from 16.8 in 2010 to 12.4, a change of -4.4 ( -26.2%).

For most counties, median household income (MHI) has increased between 2010 and 2020, while the poverty rate has decreased.
This is due in part to Federal stimulus funds transfer payments in 2020. This section presents income and poverty data for each year 2010-2020 for this county, corresponding state and the U.S. This is the only Federal source of current estimate of MHI and poverty for all counties.
