Using this Document ... goto top
This document to provides data and information to assess geographic, demographic, economic characteristics and trends for this area. There are several aspects important to effective use of this document.

Accessing and Consuming the Data. The HTML document is designed for use with any browser using a tablet, laptop or desktop. The nature of the material is not intended for optimal use via cellphone.

ACS Survey-based Estimates. goto top All Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) estimates are subject to errors of estimation and other sources of error. ACS 1-year estimates are available for approximately 810 counties having population of 65,000 or more. ACS 1-year estimates are used to develop the profile when available for a specific county; otherwise ACS 5-year estimates are used.
- The ACS 1-year estimates reflect more current conditions compared to the ACS 5-year estimate.
- ACS 2015 5-year estimates are centric to mid 2013; ACS 2016 5-year estimates are centric to mid 2014.
- ACS 2015 1-year estimates are calendar year 2015 data; ACS 2016 1-year estimates are calendar year 2016 data.
ACS Data Values & Top-coding.
- ACS 2015 median housing value is top-coded at $1,000,000
- ACS 2016 median housing value is top-coded at $2,000,000

Negative values appearing in the data columns 2015 and 2016 indicate data not available. Note that a value of zero appearing in the data columns 2015 and 2016 may not in actuality be zero; as described above, these are estimates based on survey respondent data.

Gini Index & Measuring Income Inequality. goto top The Gini Index is a dimensionless statistic that can be used as a measure of income inequality. The Gini index varies from 0 to 1, with a 0 indicating perfect equality, where there is a proportional distribution of income. A Gini index of 1 indicates perfect inequality, where one household has all the income and all others have no income.

At the national level, the 2015 Gini index for U.S. was 0.482 (based on 2015 ACS 1-year estimates) was significantly higher than in the 2014 ACS Index of 0.480 (based on 2014 ACS 1-year estimates). This increase suggests that income inequality increased across the country.

Housing Price Index Notes. goto top The Housing Price Index (HPI) is shown as an index with a base year of 2010. This HPI shows housing value appreciation since 2010. The HPI 2010 base year index is not available for all counties. See the HPI by ZIP Code section for more information.

Business Patterns Notes. goto top The County Business Patterns (CBP) provide data on the number of establishments, employment and earnings. CBP data reflect place of employment whereas ACS data reflect place of residence. See the CBP section for more information.

Detailed industry detail shown in section 3.1. use NAICS type of business codes. While the underlying database can be used to show all 6-digit detail, this profile is limited to 3-digit level, except for the Health Services sector (62) for which all types of business are shown.
