This report provides unique insights into demographic, social, economic and housing characteristics of children living in this district. These data are refreshed periodically and are available for approximately 13,000 school districts. Multi-sourced data are used to develop this report. The more detailed data in the four-part section 2 are based on the American Community Survey (ACS) school district special tabulation (SDST).

The SDST data were first developed by Warren Glimpse, founder of ProximityOne, in the mid-1990s based on the 1990 Census. A similar SDST was developed based on Census 2000. Subsequent SDSTs are based on ACS. See more about the ACS 2015 SDST used to develop this report. The ACS 2016 SDST data will be available in mid-2018.

General usage notes
- School district boundaries change over time for some districts.

Total District Population Data. Appears only in Section 1. The total population and related data are developed annually using model-based methods for use in computing Title I funding allocations. See more about these data in related section. Data showing in the 2015 column are for calendar year 2015.

LEA Administrative Data. Appears only in Section 1. The Local Education Agency administrative data (LEA) are reported annually by state education agencies to the National Center for Education Statistics which then summarizes these data. Data showing in the 2015 column are for the 2015-16 school year.

SDFA Data. Appears only in Section 1. School District Finances Data (SDFA) are based on an annual survey of school districts by the Census Bureau for the National Center for Education Statistics. Data are for fiscal years which have varying monthly end dates for some districts. Data are summarized on a cash basis and may differ from data summarized by districts using different accounting methods. Data showing in the 2015 column are for fiscal year 2015.

SDST Data. The annually updated ACS-based School District Special Tabulation (SDST) data are a unique source of data to help stakeholders understand demographic-economic characteristics of total children as well as grade relevant children. The SDST data enable analysis of children's living characteristics by type of enrollment (enrolled in public school, enrolled in private school, not enrolled) by school district. For example, in this Houston ISD, TX profile it can be determined that of those grade relevant children who 'speak English less than "very well".

  - enrolled in private school
      ... 810 or 3.9% of total grade relevant children enrolled private (very low)
  - not enrolled
      ... 3,265 or 30.9% of total grade relevant children not enrolled (very high)

How does Houston ISD compare to Dallas ISD? ... to Los Angeles Unified? ... use these data to find out. Whether ability to speak English, or other living/demographic environmental characteristics, these are among the factors that can primarily influence educational outcomes.
