Arkansas City School District, KS

The Arkansas City School District is a public, unified school district located in Arkansas City, KS and mainly in Cowley County, KS. See district Web Page. This section provides access to a Virtual Data Analytics (VDA) Geographic Information Syatem (GIS).

Selected and More General Characteristics
The Arkansas City population remained about the same 2020 through 2024 (11,761). The Arkansas City School District 2023 total population was 15,736 with the ppulation of relevant of children 5 to 17 years of age at 3,012. The district estimated number of relevant children 5 to 17 years old in poverty related to the householder was 59.

The primary source of data for the city, school district and other geography is the annual American Community Survey (ACS). But many other data are integrated. These data and Census 2020 data are integrated into the GIS project shown below. The detailed road/street segment (intersection-to-intersection) may be used to flexibly manage bus/transportation routing. Administrative data are also included for the district and schools providing data like enrollment by grade. This GIS project may be expanded. It might be expanded with new layers like congressional communities, congressional districts or state legislative districts. Sources and uses of funds by school and the district can be added. The number of housing units and population can be added using the Census Bureau census block change file, updated annually. Also, the integrated VDA GIS Geocoded may be used by non-GIS staff to geocode and add students as markers to learn more about the how and where students of specific grades are located. Add this and other shapefiles to the existing project.

Intended Users
The intended users include parents, teachers, administrative staff and any stakeholder interested in Arkansas City. The version shown below may be used by anyone. Different versions of the GIS project. say those with geocoded students, might be used by a more restricted set of users. No additional staff are required to use or maintain this tool or application.
