.. use with Visual Data Analytics (VDA) Geographic Information Systems (GIS) This Visual Data Analytics VDA project (VDA tools) is focusing on mapping and geospatial analysis of the existing and proposed Texas redistricting. See more about redistricting. The proposed redistricting may or may not take place and is a topic of heated conversation at this time. This GIS project is a "Group One" project and includes selected national scope layers. In addition, the VDA GIS tools may be used to examine these layers for Texas: census blocks with demographics, 119th Congressional Districts with "Itemset1" demographics, 119th Congressional Communities with "Itemset1" demographics and proposed Texas Plan C2308 120th Congress Redistricting Plan. Quickly see things like population, income, education, housing, and poverty. The "itemset1" data are a set of approximately 250 selected items taken from the American Community Survey 2023 ACS2023) data (DP2, DP3, DP4 and DP5 datasets). Metadata for itemset1 data are shown below. Using the Visual Data Analytics - Texas Redistricting GIS Project Find a Metro, City, County, Congressional District, Congressional Community, or Census Tract Layer: 1. Make the Layer active (click name and layer name turns blue) 2. Enter an address in the iVDA interactive mapping search bar and press Enter. 3. Map view refreshes to the Layer and shows the profile in the lower left panel. Use the Visual Data Analytics VDA - Texas Redistricting GIS project using iVDA or VDAW4. The start-up view of the VDA_DP GIS project using iVDA is shown below. Using iVDA with the VDA Texas Redistricting Project .. goto top .. The starting view shows the lower 48 states by county. .. the page being viewed is located at https://proximityone.com/texas_redistricting.htm .. use the VDAW4 tool with this and other projects to access more features. Metadata for VDA Texas Redistricting Project Ttemset1 Layers .. goto top Metadata files describe the fields in corresponding layers, with illustrative sample views (click graphic for larger view). .. each graphic shows view of item from that layer.

Group One Projects have these properties: .. focused on one geography. .. comprised of approximately 10 layers. .. contain the identical, most recent data for these layers: States CBSA/MSA Counties Cities States1 Base layer -- topology Role of GIS and Analysis of ACS Itemset1 Data A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer -based tool that allows users to store, analyze, visualize, and interpret geographic data. Geographic data, also known as spatial or geospatial data, identifies the location of features on earth. GIS combines the visual elements of maps with the ability to link characteristics about those features in datasets. This relationship allows GIS to locate, display, analyze, and model data. GIS technology integrates geographic data with statistical and administrative data using statistical methods and analytics. These abilities make GIS valuable to a wide range of public and private enterprises for explaining events, predicting outcomes and planning strategies. And collaborating on those issues. About Redistricting .. goto top U.S. House of Representative redistricting is the process of redrawing the boundaries of congressional districts within a state. This is a critical process that happens every 10 years following the U.S. Census. The goal is to ensure that each district has a roughly equal population, reflecting changes in where people live. Here's a breakdown of how it works: Census and Apportionment: After the decennial census, the U.S. government uses the population data to "apportion" or divide the 435 seats in the House of Representatives among the 50 states. States that have gained population relative to others may gain a seat, while those with stagnant or declining populations may lose one. Redrawing the Maps: Once a state knows how many congressional seats it has, it must redraw its district lines. This is the process of redistricting. Who Draws the Lines: The entity responsible for drawing the maps varies by state. In most states, the state legislature is in charge, and the new map is passed like any other bill, often requiring the governor's signature. However, a growing number of states have adopted independent or bipartisan commissions to handle the task, aiming to reduce partisan influence. Gerrymandering: The redistricting process is often highly political and can lead to gerrymandering, which is the practice of drawing district boundaries to give one political party an advantage. There are two main strategies for gerrymandering: Packing: Concentrating voters of one party into a few districts to limit their influence in other districts. Cracking: Spreading voters of one party across many districts to weaken their voting power and prevent them from forming a majority. Legal Challenges: Redistricting plans can be challenged in court if they are believed to violate the U.S. Constitution or federal laws, such as the Voting Rights Act, which prohibits maps that discriminate on the basis of race. Courts may invalidate maps and, in some cases, draw new ones themselves. About iVDA & VDAGIS .. goto top iVDA is an HTML iframe embedded version of VDA Web GIS.
