ZIP Code Demographic-Economic Interactive Tables -- ACS 2011 Social Characteristics
This section provides access to ZIP Code ACS 2011 5-year demographic-economic estimates released December 2012. Similarly structured ZIP Code ACS 2012 5-year demographic-economic estimates released December 2013 are available in this related section. The ACS 2011 U.S. national scope ZIP Code Demographic-Economic Dataset contains approximately 600 subject matter items tabulated for each 5-digit ZIP Code Area organized into four subject matter groups: • General Demographics • Social Characteristics (this section) • Economic Characteristics • Housing Characteristics See notes on importance of these data. ZIP Code Areas are groups of generally contiguous of Census 2010 census blocks. See similar ranking tables for: Census Tracts | Cities | School Districts | State, Metro & County. Use the interactive ranking table in this section to view, query, rank, compare social characteristics of the population, households and families in these ZIP code areas. The scroll box shown below lists each of the subject matter items available for each ZIP Code area via the ranking table. In the subject matter items scrollbox, subject matter items are organized into to mini-tables with related items. The number at the left of the subject matter item is also used as the short name for the subject matter item in the column header in the ranking table. 5-Year Annual Projections Use the ProximityOne 5-Year annual estimates and projections, updated annually, to examine trends and how demographic-economic characteristics are expected to change for ZIP Code areas and other geography. All other items are estimates centric to mid-2009. • Click ShowAll button between specific ZIP queries. • Cells with -1 value could not be estimated (for this geography and this time frame). Use find codes/names to determine census tract, city/place, school district etc. geocode/area name based on address. Importance of these Data The ACS estimates and ProximityOne projections provide "richer" demographic-economic characteristics for national scope ZIP Code Areas (ZCA). Census 2010 provides data similar to those items in the General Demographics section. Only the ACS 2011 estimates, ACS 2012 estimates and ProximityOne projections provide details on topics such as income and poverty, labor force and employment, housing value and costs, educational participation and attainment, language spoken at home, among many related items. The approximate 600 items accessible via the ZCA dataset are supplemented by a wide range of additional subject matter. ZCA estimates and projections are updated annually.
