U.S.-State-Metro Demographic-Economic Characteristics -- Comparative Analysis Profiles

How do they compare based on educational attainment? percent population in poverty? homeownership rate? age distribution? migration? employment by industry? occupation? How do business opportunities compare? What about other metros? Choose from hundreds of measures in the state/metro demographic-economic interactive tables to compare and contrast states and metros based on side-by-side comparisons. The U.S.-State-Metro Demographic-Economic interactive tables provide a useful resource to view/compare geographies when ranked on a specific subject matter column of interest. The interactive tables are also useful to view a selected set of geographic areas where subject matter fields are arrayed horizontally for each geographic area. View demographic-economic attributes of selected geographic areas of interest in a side-by-side manner. Partial view of sample file (access full xls file here) Steps to Create Comparative Analysis Profiles The following example illustrates how to develop a comparative analysis profile for the Houston, TX metro, state of Texas and United States using the General Demographics DP1 data. 1. Save the DP1 xls file (see below) to a local drive. 2. Open the DP1 xls file using Excel or equivalent. 3. Open the General Demographics DP1 table. 4. Navigate to Houston, TX metro in DP1 table. Right click that row and select Copy from dropdown. 5. Go to the open DP1 xls file. Click on cell B1, right-click and select Paste. Data are loaded horizontally. 6. Right-click cell B1 and select Copy. 7. Click cell B2 and select Paste Special; choose the option transpose and click OK. Houston metro data are now showing as a column of data (column B). 8. Repeat steps 4 through 7 for the state of Texas using column C rather than column B. 9. Repeat steps 4 through 7 for the U.S. using column D rather than column B.
