Situation & Outlook Estimates & Projections

July 2024 .. Demographic-economic estimates and projections are available for each/all counties for the period 2020 through 2030. These data are part of the ProximityOne Situation & Outlook program and have been developed using the Modeler integrated software and database.

A primary benefit of using these data is to know more about the current situation, how things are trending and what might change in the years ahead. These data are indispensable to informed planning and risk avoidance. Historical data (2020-2023) are based on data derived from several Federal agencies. One benefit from using these data is that they are organized in a more accessible and consumable manner than possible by accessing them directly from the agencies -- or even finding where they are located. Most Federal statistical data have a lag of one or more years from the reference date to the date of availability; e.g., 2023 data becoming available in 2024. We develop current estimates. But there is more .. we develop projections providing insights into how things might change in the future.

Scope
    - U.S. by county; annually 2020 through 2030
    - current demographic economic estimates (2024 vs 2023) and annual projections (2025 forward)
    - examining trends and how things might change
    - provisional update; county level up
    - geographies: counties, tracts, congressional communities, congressional districts, states, U.S. and other

Structure
The national scope database is comprised of a row/record for each county iterated by each subject matter item. The annual data values are included in each record. Tha subject matter data are organized into these sections:
    - population and components of change
    - county age-race/origin
    - single year of age; selected age groups
    - establishments by high level industry
    - employment by high level industry
    - average annual earnings by high level industry
    - selected ACS-like demographic-economic attributes
    - personal income by major source
    - gross domestic project by sector

Examples:
The following profiles are examples of the output that can be generated using the Modeler software and or displayed using the VDAGIS tools
  - Fresno County, CA .. web .. xls
  - Orange County, CA .. web .. xls
  - Sedgwick County, KS .. web .. xls
  - Cowley County, KS .. web .. xls
  - Harris County, TX .. web .. xls
  - Alexandria, VA .. web .. xls

Methodology
Estimates and projectiona are developed using the Modeler software with a U.S. macro model and semi-generic county simultaneous equation models. The model specification includes a set of jointly dependent variables/equations producing a baseline or scenario 1 current estimates (e.g., 2024 for vintage 2024) and annual projections through 2030.

Updates
The main database is updated annually in July/August. The Vintage 2024 database will be released in August 2024. Interim updates are integrated for selected items in September (ACS 1 year estimates), November (BEA personal income), December (ACS 5-year estimates; BEA GDP estimates). The model is re-estimated and projections are revised producing Vintage 2024.1 (August) with interim 2024.2 (December).

Availability
Data are available as a licensed database, via VDAGIS tools and as single geographic area web/xls profiles. Data are released as a national scope database in annual vintages (August and January). The national, or geographic subsets such as metros or states, of the database are available by download.

Each informal session is focused on a specific topic. The open structure also provides for Q&A and discussion of application issues of interest to participants.

Additional Information
ProximityOne develops geodemographic-economic data and analytical tools and helps organizations knit together and use diverse data in a decision-making and analytical framework. We develop custom demographic/economic estimates and projections, develop geographic and geocoded address files, and assist with impact and geospatial analyses. Wide-ranging organizations use our tools (software, data, methodologies) to analyze their own data integrated with other data. Contact us (888-364-7656) with questions about data covered in this section or to discuss custom estimates, projections or analyses for your areas of interest.
