Mapping Statistical Data Group
The Mapping Statistical Data (MSD) Group is a forum designed for those interested in mapping, visual and geospatial analysis, and interpretative analysis of statistical data. Our focus is on using Geographic Information System (GIS) tools, data and methods. MSD Group participants receive updates on matters concerning CV XE GIS software features, applications and usage tips. Participants may access the digest section of the MSDGroup main page (http://proximityone.com/msdgroup.htm). MSD Group participants have exclusive access to GIS projects posted in the Mapping Statistical Data web section. MSD Group membership is automatic for licensed CV XE GIS users (Levels 1 and higher). There is no fee. MSD Group Digest -- visible only to logged in members Web Pages and Selected Files MSD Group members access a Web page summarizing resources available only to members. Resources include files that we have developed, many previously made those data available only on a fee basis. MSD Group Access Portal MSD Group members are provided with exclusive access to a MSD Web Portal. A partial list of files and related resources are listed in the scroll section below. Files/resources are U.S. national scale unless otherwise indicated. Weekly & Occasional Updates A weekly MSD Group email is sent normally the first Monday of the week. This email summarizes recent developments, upcoming key data releases and related information and related topics. Factors that drive topics included in updates: • new or notably updated web pages, software, data or events. • following of certain subject matter: - selected Census, BLS, BEA, NCES, FDIC/FFIEC/FHFA & other Federal statistical programs - notably decennial census and American Community Survey &and their integration with other data - selected association and proprietary geographic-demographic-economic data. • following of certain geography and integration of related subject matter: - address/location entities (schools, banks, healthcare ...) & coding to geographic areas. - roads & line-oriented geography. - geographic area: block, block group, tract, zip, city/place, MCD/town, county, metro, school district, congressional district, legislative districts, state, US, country • issues relating to geography change and relating types of geography • issues about data consumability/accessibility/usability • use of GIS tools and geographic-demographic-economic data in general • federal statistical data integration; stovepipe issues. • other topics affecting decision-making information. Data Analytics Lab Sessions Some topics are more effectively communicated by seeing/viewing software in action and being able to ask questions about operations or specific data structures. Weekly Web-based lab sessions are normally conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesdays. Connectively details and related information are provided at Web session details. Weekly Lab sessions are focused on ... how to improve our ability to understand where we are ... and where we are going? How can we use data to better understand patterns, where and how change will occur ... and how change will impact us? Have we got the best data to answer the right questions? These sessions last one hour or less. The sessions also offer offer an open structure/support (see below) and discussion forum with like-minded users. Data Analytics Blog The Data Analytics Blog is focused on the development, integration and use of geographic-demographic-economic data to help stakeholders better understand where we are now; the what, when and where things will change in the future; and how change might impact us. Join us in the Data Analytics Lab sessions. There is no fee for these Web sessions. Each informal session is focused on a specific topic. The open structure also provides for Q&A and discussion of application issues of interest to participants.
