Overview. Prince George's County Public Schools is located in Prince George's County (24033) and Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV metro ( 47900). The population of Prince George's County Public Schools changed from 865,271 in 2010 to 909,535 in 2015; a change of 44,264 (5.1%). The metro population changed from 5,666,536 to 6,097,684, a change of 431,148 (7.6%) during the same period. As of 2015, the population of Prince George's County Public Schools represented 14.9% of the metro total population.

Race/Ethnicity. Based on the most recent ACS 2015 5-year estimates the district total resident population was 892,816. The population of one race include 20.4% White alone, 63.4% Black alone, 0.4% American Indian/Alaska Native alone, 4.3% Asian alone, and 0.0% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander alone. The Hispanic population (of any race) was 16.2% of the total population. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02 below.

Housing, Households, Economic Situation. Of the district 329,897 total housing units, 305,610 were occupied housing units (households) or 92.6% of total units. Of the 189,462 owner-occupied units, the median housing value was $254,700. Of the 189,462 renter-occupied units paying rent, the median rent was $1,294. Among the 201,936 family households, 6.9% had income below poverty level in the previous year. Among the total population, 9.6% had income below poverty level in the previous year. The district median household income was $74,260 with median family income of $85,445. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02 below.

Education. Of the 247,152 district population 3 years and over enrolled in school, 98,195 were enrolled in grades K-8. Among the 590,874 population 25 years and over, 85.6% were high school graduates and 31.1% were college graduates. These characteristics are based on more detailed data in section 02 below.

The district is 98.0% urban with locale code 21.

02. ACS Demographic-Economic Estimates
Reference to "with ACS 1-year data" means that 02 sections of the report use ACS 1-year estimates (available district 65,000 population and over). Where there is no ACS reference, ACS 5-year data are used (available for all districts). In general, the 1-year estimates should be used when available (more recent, more accurate) but there are reasons to prefer the 5-year estimates even when 1-year estimates are available. Urban/Rural & Locale Code
The percent urban value in the Oveview is computed as the ratio of the population in urban census blocks to the total population in the district based on Census 2010 SF1. No adjustment is made for districts which may have changed boundaries since 2010. If the Census 2010 district geocode does not match to a ACS 2015 geocode, the percent urban is shown as NA.

Local code (defined by the Department of Education):
where UA: Urbanized Area; UC: Urban Cluster; PC: Principal City
11 = City, Large: area inside UA & inside PC & population >= 250,000.
12 = City, Midsize: area inside UA & inside PC & population 100,000-250,000.
13 = City, Small: area inside UA & inside PC & population < 100,000.
21 = Suburb, Large: area outside PC & inside UA & population >= 250,000.
22 = Suburb, Midsize: area outside PC & inside UA & population 100,000-250,000.
23 = Suburb, Small: area outside PC & inside UA & population < 100,000.
